I realized recently that I knew next to nothing about what either of my grandfathers did during WWII. Both passed away many years before I came along and my parents have very few details. My grandfather, Clarence Barnes, served in the 99th Infantry Division in the 393 Regiment. He was from Baltimore, and may have been the recipient of the Purple Heart. His veteran's tombstone also mentions "SVC Co.", but I haven't been able to figure out what that means. I sent away for his DD214, but it was damaged in the fire in 1973. If anyone has any information on him or the 393rd or knows how I can find it, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a rough sketch but don't know if what I have found is accurate. Thanks!
