I wonder if anyone could provide me with information about my uncle, Sargeant Andrew John Kerr Steven - 979723, who died on this raid. He parachuted out of his aircraft and drowned in a lake in Berlin. The aircraft returned safely to Breighton as far as I know. I also understand he was involved in an accident the week before on take-off from Breighton. Could anyone tellme the circumstances of his death and why he would jump out of an aircraft on his own?
I was called after him by my father as he missed his big brother very much.

Short of you obtaining his RAF service records OR locating any living members of his crew, I am afraid it just isn't possible to know the full story.

If you are near Kew, the Operations Record Book of 78 Squadron may have a bit on him jumping. I say "may" because depending on who wrote the ORB for August 1943, it may be either richly detailed or not cover the case at all.
