many of you know of my interest in the Luftwaffe night fighter activities against the RAF. I will most probably be self-publishing a book on the Jun88G-6 and it's crews and missions from November 24th 1944 till wars end. Included witll be accounts from the German crews and mechanics as well as accounts from some of the RAF bomber crews. will include multi-images of German Ju 88G-6's..........and here is a little example from friend and artist who may be doing the work for me.....we are still talking. Simon Schatz from Vienna the profile is still not finished but thought I would throw it in for a little fun ~E
Sounds good, Erich - I can't wait to see the finished result ! http://www.angelfire.com/fm/compass/DHM.htm ( )
Good for you Erich !! I am sure it will be a lot of time and effort to get it all together though. I would like to see some cockpit and crew station pictures in the book. Many books only photograph in exterior of the aircraft. Also the pictures they do put in alot of airplane books are spread over two pages and the area in the crease of the book you can not see with out breaking the back of the book. Like the nice Ju-88 art you posted should be put on just one page and not spread over two where some of the fuselage is not seen. I guess they call this portate or landscape lay out, I am not sure. Also try not to make the letters in the text too small for us older folks. Some books I have I almost need a magnifiying glass to read the text. Stories about the crews daily life would be good too, such as when they slept and ate since they flew during the night and also the fates of some of the crews after the war was over such as how many were imprisioned in Russia after the war and survived. Again, good for you to write the book. I know it will be accurate from your posts on the forums.
thanks for the encouragement gents........hold onto your monies though as there is still a ton of preparation to fulfill. Another avenue is self publishing so I can really control what is going on and publish when I want to publish and not be restricted to time settings and produce a piece of crap. As it stands this will basically be a first person account book with exterior pics of a/c and crewmen. One thing which is very surpriseing is the lack of interior details as this was forbidden by the Gruppenkommandeur in writing and passed down to the staffelkapitän's. this was for security reasons. what has been shown of the radar-radio details and other electronics was of captured machines and taken by RAF/RCAF and US crewmen. Only on special occassions was /Siemens and Telefunken techs allowed on base and this was to pre-set radar sets during instruction to German Luftwaffe ground crews. So we will see what I am able to produce. Here is another often seen Ju 88G-6 this time with the alteration of the FuG 220d set- Morgenstern array without the wooden nose cone. From II./NJG 5 Gruppenkommandeur. ~E I will have a profile hopefully in correct coloration of this and many other birds....
I wish you the best and a lot of luck on your book, Erich! Even if I'm not such a fan of air war, I'll give it a try! No, I'm really interested on it. Write me down for a copy too. Then after I finish writing my WWII novel I will have it printed and translated to English to share some with you, folks.
you maybe in luck Fried, your favorite a/c the Bf 110 may become a night fighter and displayed in the English magazine publication SAM possibly as early as next year. Been thinking seriously of co-authoring this with friend Neil Page who has an article or two in the same publication, last one being part 1 of the Fw 190 as a good solid reference. thanks for the comments....... ~E
Now that I'd like to see, Erich ! Any chance of a model in Martin Drewes' colours, or maybe Peter Spoden ...?
Martin, Herr Drewes only flew the Bf 110G-4 in late war.........sorry. As for friend Peter Spoden.......well uh....... most definately ! , at least one of his Ju 88G-6's ~E
Out of curiosity, how much $$$ does it cost to self publish a book ? Could you just do it cheaper by selling the story in installments to a quality airplane or historical journal ? I would hate to see you lose alot of money on a good effort.
have not done it yet TA so am not really sure. Really would like to keep at least the Ju 88G-6 all in one book but if there are pleanty of profiles then it will be two. Have seriously thought about a teaser in the British modeling mag SAM for next spring-summer-fall if they have room. They have already doen a nice tribute to the Fw 190A in volume one by good friend Neil Page. His next installment, the Dora, will come out next for 2004........ the two of us have also talked at some length about an article on the Bf 110G-4 night fighter for SAM ~E
Tank, I'm not sure. But the book I'm writing and that I pretend to self-publish when I finish it won't cost much. I know a very good graphic designer who will do the editorial design of the book for $850 and then, in the printing I'll expend some $5 per book (1.000+ pages of good paper and more than 400 photos and illustrations). I'll make some 200 copies. I don't know if that's what Erich is going to do too...
Thanks for the information General. I did not have a clue as to what a book cost to make and publish. I guess it cost more to have a book distrubitor put it in their catologue and market the book.
