This place appears to have a nice collection! Do you have any more pictures?

It does have a good collection - sadly no more pictures, as I went for the airshow and did not have the film left for the tanks!

They have a good selection of tanks/lorries/guns from WW1 to the present day (see the Sovet AA tank next the Comet) including a Conqueror), including a T-34, IS-2, Churchill, Sherman, 88mm gun, even Monty's caravan!

They also had while I was there a special D-Day show, with a mock landing craft to run out of, and helmets / guns etc to try on!

Try the Duxford website, I'm sure it will have good detail!

Right, here are the pictures from when Roel (or 'RRRRRRRRRRule' if you pronounce it properly ;) ) and I visited Duxford. There are surprisingly few.

Once again, sorry if it is a bit gloomy, the hall is not well lit.

It looks like a Pz.IV Ausf A - although the odd thing under the gun barrel was apparently not fitted to the 'A' model. What is the odd thing under the gun for??

Vickers Light tank - put next the Pz.IV as an unfair comparison!

A Valentine, just for Skua :D

A Goliath - we wondered what the metal bar at the side was. Our best guess was that it was for attaching wheels (it is on both sides) to ease transport.

Rear of a T-34/76 - note the side fuel tanks and the attachments for several more at the rear...

Oli, I must apologise. We intended to take photos of the TSR2 for you, but we ran out of time. We had not finished the Land Warfare Hall when the place closed. :(

Roel is the tall one on the left. I'm the shorter one on the right.
And the Comet is the big green tank behind us. :D

I believe the thing under the PanzerIV barrel was used to sweep aside the antenna when the turret rotated.

That was mentioned in a book Ricky had, but the problem is that the position of the antenna seemed to change a lot with every model, and also that the bar doesn't actually reach beyond the barrel, so that if the turret would turn the barrel would still be the first thing hitting the antenna.

Thanks for posting the pictures, Ricky!

The Tiger replica in Saving Private Ryan hardly deserves to be called a replica, in my opinion.

I was under the impression that this was the tiger rep. in Pvt. Ryan.

    small child

I'm glad you put the later photo in Richard, I thought that perhaps the small child was Roel!
I wondered what had happened to the Ryan Tiger.

I don't tend to wear skirts in public... ;)

The only thing I know about the Tiger replica we saw in Duxford is that the plaque said it was built for and used in Saving Private Ryan. I don't know how often they change the exhibit's layout, but it can't have been in the museum for more than seven years.

Merlin's picture looks more like the one in the film.

From this statement Roel, I assume that you do, but only in private? ;)

It does have a completely different camo scheme and turret number. On the other hand it has the same, non-existant, SS unit logo.

Could the museum be lying about its replica Tiger?

Good work, David, you figured out the joke... ;)
