Hello one and all, My Name is Andrew Strebel. I am fascinated with U.S. history so much so that I have a bachelor's degree in the subject. I am working towards the path of a teacher and teach history. I plan to gain a master's degree and teach history to our future generations while making the subject fun and Interesting. I feel the youth need to have a better understanding and a greater appreciation of our history. I feel sad and ashamed that much of our youth do not know basic historical topics that have helped shape the United States. I am thankful for my grandparents and the lives that they have led. I think much of that influence I have in history is due to my grandparents and hearing about their lives. One of my grandfathers was a German-American WWII veteran that fought on D-Day at Omaha beach. His U.S. military time came to an end when he was wounded near or at St.Lo by taking shrapnel to his thigh and lower leg. I came to these forums for assistance and ideas on where to look to recreate and trace my grandfather's military history. I am not familiar with the military history of World War II and am having difficulty retracing his steps. Unfortunately, his records which were one of many thousands that were lost in the 1970s fire at the NARA building. I look forward to meeting you all and I hope I can contribute to these forums in over time.
Welcome. New guys traditionally buy a round at the bar. (You might also find some useful information in my sig.)
Welcome to the forum. Always nice to see burgeoning teachers. Very rewarding profession, but you won't drive a Mercedes.
Welcome Andrew. Teaching indeed is a fine profession (I did it for 35 years). Forget a Mercedes, you'll be lucky to drive a Ford.. As far as your questions are concerned, a name and unit would be helpful, We'll do our best to help.
Welcome to the Forum, Andrew. I encourage you to go to the Forum section Military Service Records & Genealogical Research and start a new Topic about your grandfather's service. We will be better able to help you if we know what information you already have and what avenues you have already pursued.
