I would think that during the so called "Lincoln County War" you could find relatives from both sides which thought the other guys were the criminals. Both sides claimed to be the "legal authority" in the territory after all.

Brndirt1 you are right about the legal authorities.....it was a grim time here in the state. The Lincoln County Wars was the result of easterner's view of their "Manifest Destiny" which created a feeling of righteousness at killing, stealing, and cheating to get the lands from folks that were already here on it. Billy just got on the wrong side so he had to be "made" to be the outlaw so his group wouldn't hold their lands. No pardons then for the ones that stood up for those land claims. Better to shoot him and make him an outlaw. Now .....none of those people's descendants can get their lands back so why not give the symbol a pardon instead? EH not a bad idea if you ask me? Generations later you can get something like that given back? It is like plucking a soul from hell and giving him mouth to mouth. It is just that it is hard to find the real carcass, is it buried in New Mexico or Texas? Only the Stump or DNA testing really knows.

Why not pardon everyone while they're at it? It's the thing to do these days.
