During the first week in June a group of restored WWII planes are coming to my local airport and i'm trying to go see them. However, I also want to take my camera and take some shots and make a little short film about them. Anyways, I was wondering what background music should I use for the video. It really won't have any sound effects up until startup and takeoff. I was thinking maybe the Top Gun theme, or maybe an older WWII style version of the Army Air Corps Song. What would you guys recommend?

I think Federal law requires you to have some big band music, such as American Patrol, In the Mood, or Woodchoppers Ball anytime film of WWII subjects is shown. Don't get in trouble with that.

I'm a purist, I really like the raw sound of the aircraft. If you really want a soundtrack, I would go for something semi-mellow. I have a tonne of recommendations, but copyright would be a problem.

I have to agree with Otto on this one, the sound of the aircraft is music in it's own right, for me that's more than enough. If you had a very quiet background of the Battle of Britain theme or the 633rd squadron song that would be okay.

That's my preference, but feel free to ignore it. I absolutely hate colorized photos as well, but many people like them.

If you like here, is some royalty free music on youtube, there is good selection of orchestral/cinematic/etc that might fit your needs.

I found one use for colorized pictures. WWI class, we were discussing zouaves. The young folks who came to class disguised as trees* didn't get the problem with those uniforms until I showed them the colorized pix. They were aghast at the thought of charging across open ground dressed like that.

Of course, all you need is a good beat, and making the right cuts at the right times.

The old A4 Blue Angles, one of my favorite Van Halen songs, and one of my favorite music videos too.

Thomas Bergersen, a Norwegian composer has some good music for syncing to video. This one is called "Rada" and I think it really goes well with the helicopter scenes. I've done insertions or heliborne assaults out of most of the types pictured (though not necessarily the specific model; for instance I've never flown in a UH-1D model, the Vietnam transport version, but have flown in and/or jumped the H model and USMC N model) CH-46, H-64, UH-1 and MH-6. I think the music really conveys the feeling you have when going in by helo.
