I was watching a documentary the other day when I believe I saw some Libyan soldiers carrying AK47s with the same clip as this:

I have read, quite sometime ago, that the AK47 could be fitted with a 100 round clip, but I really have no evidence to back that up.

Has anyone heard/seen such a magazine for this weapon?

Not sure. I believe there is a 75 round drum but that might be for the RPK.

I understand RPK/AKM magazines are interchangable.

I think they are. I believe the extra capacity was intended for the RPK but will fit the AK.

It seems a little silly to me.
They have a 60-round clip that is no longer than a standard 30-round clip (bullets are stacked in 4's, not 2's), but to make a 100-round clip they produce a great banana of a thing that has to be attached to the gun barrel!

If they made it a little wider they could cut the length right down.

btw - anybody know why the 100-round mag has a steeper curve than the 60-round? It it just so it will reach the barrel, or is there a technical reason?

I would imagine, although I'm certainly no expert that the 100 round magazine is semi-circular in order to attach to the barrel, then the individual firing it can use the magazine itself to rest the gun on (I'd imagine that 100 rounds makes the Kalashnikov quite heavy).

    That would certainly make sense.
