OK, for all you gun fans out there, which one of these four fantastic rifles are superior to the rest?

I only know the AK-47 and M16...I'd take the AK-47 for it's versitility, durability and the fact that you can pretty much ensure an unlimited amount of ammo by stealing off the dead. And it's somewhat waterproof.

The C7's a modified, slightly improved M16. As for the AK74, it's just something I read in a book. I'd take the C7 as a personal choice, 'cause it's like the M16 but a bit better. And for some reason I hate to think of the M16 or C7 being beaten by anything else, even though I also like the AK47 because it has a cool name , and all those other pros. I'll just say they're equal and refuse to change that opinion no matter what. :D

Blaster, I hate to think of anything being better than the weapon I carried, but if I had the opportunity, I believe I'd carry an AK47. Aside from being almost idiot-proof, it takes a lot to make it unserviceable. It's got a hard hitting round. Now, I can really reach out and touch someone with the M16A2, but most engagements are going to be at shorter ranges, which are right up the AK's alley. But, I can still go out a few hundred meters if I need to.

Remember, this is all personal preference. I also have great respect for the school of thought that says the best gun for combat is the one in your hand! :bang:

AK-74 was developed as a replacement for the Ak-47 and I dont beleive it was ever as appreciated at the 47 because it was chambered with a smaller round(5.45X39?) instead of the same round as the AK-47.

Since it is normal to prefer the thing you know well, I would go for AK-47 or preferably Yugoslav version of it under name M-70 (possibility of "tromblone" mine lounching, iron night sights, better quality).
Still better is M-72 LMG ( it is only M-70 with lenghtened barell and feet). With M-72 in relative good condition one can play sniper up to 400m with iron sight ( without optical sight). That i can confirm becouse i was M-72 gunner during my service.
In second preparatory combat firing from prone position with M-72 [small target (head) at 250m with single fire, basketball player (full target) at 400m with gasmask and full auto fire, MG target (torso with head and a head) at 350m with full auto fire] i used 6 rounds, platoon buddy from 1.st squad used only 3 rounds (both of us scored 1shot, 1 burst, 1 burst, but he got 2 hours added to his home leave  ).
M-70 is gun i'm using now in the reserves. Becouse of it's heavy 7,62 round it's very practical for use in the wooded terrain where we mostly operate as small (and not so small) treas are not such obsticle for the round. Trust me, if enemy uses 7,62 ammo do not even try to hide behind a tree.

But I read in a book that the M16 has more muzzle velocity than the AK47! But, then again, maybe a smaller, lighter round. What about the M14 and C7? Can their bullets go through two 2-inch wooden blocks?

For sure M14 can penetrate 4" of wood. After all, 7.62x51 is full power rifle cartridge.

i think i would have to go with the M-16. its a well made gun capable of fireing long distances compared to the 47. the 74 is my 2nd choice because of duribility and the easyness of finding ammo.

I would be more tempted for a HK416 (imagine the M-4 carbine but with the problem the direct gas system, so it is more reliable or its brother the HK417 which is the same gun but using a .308 winchester round

i choose the AKM (modernized), it was an ak the had a very effective recoil reducing wedge added to the end of the barrel, and still used 7.62x39
