JCFalkenbergIII is right, but sometimes the use of humor can relax a tensed situation even at the cost of temporarally sidetracking a thread. Rather have some fun for few minutes and start doing some good work again, than start another "wasn't me" fight .So back to the serious thing now. :)

Hey Falkenberg, give me some time, in my files I have a captured Tiger picture that is right in central Paris with FFI colours! You would love to see that one wouldn't you?

I think you refer to a Panther here. There are no 'captured' Tiger photos taken in Paris
There are pics of a captured SS 102 Tiger marked with a roundel and named 'Bretange' and another marked 'Colmar' used in the reduction of the Atlantic Ports (St Nazaire, Brest) The French used a number of Tigers, Panthers and Mk IV's for this campaign as well as a TII.

A strong but undernourished interest in late/postwar French usage of German Armour (& Spanish 88s, but that's a different story) leads me to ask what books or websites I might be able to see these fascinating sounding shots of Tigers in/on?
There seem to be so few decent pictures (perhaps understandably) of captured gear in French hands.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

"After the war, many French Army tank units were equipped with Panthers (eg. 503rd Tank Battalion in Mourmelon had 50 Panthers in 1947 and 501rd Tank Battalion used Panthers from 1946 to 1950). Other post-war users included Bulgaria (Bulgarian Panthers), Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania and Yugoslavia.
After the war, modified Panther's 75mm KwK 42 L/70 gun was produced by French as 75mm DEFA and CN75-50 gun. "

This tank served in the 112th Panzer Brigade and participated to the Battle of Dompaire in September 1944. Two Panthers were lost by the 112th, captured by the 2ème Division Blindée (French 2nd Armored Division) and sent to Paris to be exposed in front of the Invalides. In 1976, they were transferred to Saumur. The other Panther, an Ausf. A, is now exposed at Mourmelon."

World War II: Another 50 Panther picture's 12

"After 1945, fifty Panther tanks were used by French 503e Régiment de Chars de Combat stationed in Mourmelon le Grand. Before the end of 1950, the Panther tanks had been replaced by French-built ARL 44 heavy tanks. The Panther influenced the design of the French AMX 50, which was never produced. After the war, a modified 75mm KwK 42 L/70 gun was produced by the French as the 75mm DEFA and CN75-50 gun. This gun equipped the AMX 13 light tank and EBR armored car. The Israelis used the gun to upgrade their M50 Super Sherman."

    Thank you very much.
    Those are superb (and fascinating).
All the French Panther stuff that usually crops up I've seen before, and one or two of Mark IVs operated by Frenchmen, but those are something entirely fresh to me. Great stuff, I shall get googling.

    Much appreciated,
    Adam.

There is a French site (I believe it is linked by or is Samur) that has a page on the Samur Tiger I ('Colmar') and it has a few pics of 'Colmar' late war and just after. The two others I posted here are the only other TI pics so you wont find any more of 'Bretagne'.
There are but 2 or 3 pics of 'Colmar'.

I just read through this great thread and I don't think that we have seen these yet. Most are not quite AFV's but you get the picture.
