What amazed me most, was the fact that the Doctors said that this was the second case where a patient was unaware of what had happened. CRAZY!!!
There has been several cases where people have not noticed having nails or even knife blades in their brain. The brain itselfs contains no nerves, so it cannot feel pain (just like the heart needs external blood veins, because it can't supply itself with blood). If he thought the jolt came from firing the nail gun, I wouldn't think it's be that strange he didn't notice. Christian
Man i almost got sick while reading that story...! Emagine getting told you have a Nail in your brain at the dentist !! How will one ever know if it didnt damage his brain ?? KBO
Yes, I once heard a story of a Palestinian kid who was hit by an explosion and got a ballpoint shot into his eye. He later managed to tear out half of the pen, thinking it was all there was. The kid went on with his life but suffered waves of headaches for a year, whereupon he was taken to a doctor who found that there was half a ballpoint still stuck in his brain...
But the fact that it went in through the roof of his mouth? Surely that would hurt? And surely it would bleed?
You would be surprised about the force that is generated by a Nail-gun !! It probably dug in with such force that no blood could escape. Reagrsd, KBO.
My friend's little brother managed to nail his hand to a workbench with a nail gun. Trust me, you tend to notice...
Well as Christian explained there's no nerves in your brain, so you cant feel pain. In the Hand there are nerves, and you would probably notice a nail your hand, as you tend to use the hand alot. Regards, KBO.
But there are nerves in the roof of your mouth - anybody who has had to have an injection there during a trip to the dentist will tell you that. If there was no pain, why did he have 'toothache'? (I feel all queasy... :-? )
If you feel inside your mouth, you will notice a raised line through the center of the roof of your mouth (which is where your skull grew together, the same thing can be felt on top of your head). If you try to run your finger along it, you will notice that there is very little feeling in this area. If the nail was fast enough, it could very well have paralyzed the few nerves there. The hand has a large bundle of nerves, because it is designed to feel great detail. In addition, the nail would most likely obscure the movement of bones, so if one didn't see it imidiately, it would be noticed rather quickly when using the hand. Seing the wound is a great part of the pain. Compare this to soldiers or police men, who have been in a firefight. The soldiers or policemen will check each other for gunshot wounds, because there is a good chance they won't notice if the bullet doesn't hit anything imidiately vital (though it may obviously still be lethal). People has been known to walk around with gunshot wounds for hours, before they either passed out from loss of blood, or were tol by someone else seing the blood.
He he - I have two doctors in the family, with three of my cousins studying medicine - might help a bit
I do not agree with you, because theres the nasal pasage beetwen the mouth and the base of the skull, i know this trust me
Hey gang, notice he went to the dentist because the pain wouldn't go away. I think this indicates that he noticed somehting was wrong.
yea, but he was thinking in a bad molar or something like that , he did not expected to be told that he was nailed
 No, But he was defintely in pain, the previous posts made it sound like he know idea something was wrong.
