... the "Space" channel, in Canada: American Warships (2012) The crew of the USS Iowa wages war against a mysterious fleet of ships to stopthem from destroying the Earth. Mario Van Peebles, Carl Weathers, Johanna Watts, Elijah Chester, Nikki McCauley IMDB Ratings: 2.6/10 from 86 users Sounds like a cheap channel driven no-name pre-Battleship.
Haven't seen it, but you can watch the trailer here: AMERICAN WARSHIPS OFFICIAL TRAILER - YouTube Looks like a good alternative to "Battleship". Curious about the trailer though. The last few seconds show a quad 40mm shooting down some incoming missile/target, except the 40s are unloaded with no 40mm clips in them, but the guns are firing. What's even more preposterous is that the quad 40s were decades gone from the Iowa when this movie is supposed to be taking place. I guess that showing an unmanned 20mm CIWS in action lacks the "dramatic effect" of a quad 40... Ain't Hollywood grand...NOT!
... is right. I confess I had other things on the go and only caught bits here and there; that said, the special effects were laughable, and it would appear that the bad guys were actually aliens, whose seaborne ships had cloaking devices. Iowa was on her last trip, becoming a museum, and was already being turned into the WWII incarnation of herself while on the way. The aliens zapped the electronics of modern warships/Task Forces/aircraft and routed them, but "The Big Stick" was enough of a throw back to save the day. This movie works ... kinda. But only if you disregard the fact that it takes itself more seriously than "Hot Shots!" does, and you believe that "Plan 9 From Outer Space" deserves its Cult Classic status.
I hate to admit it but I did waste the time to watch this piece of, um, uh, cinematic garbage. (it "was" a little bit better than most "Reality" shows but not by much) The premise was terrible and the acting not much better. I thought what was going to be a Father - Daughter reuniting at Sea turned out to be the 'Love' interest During the big 'Show-Down' consisting of older 'vacuum tube era' aircraft, Four T-6's count em' four get blasted - what to my half closed eyes appeared? A C-130 dropping bombs from it's belly! JUST Like a B-17!! And like Gunbunny said, not only did the 'Museum ready' Iowa have a large supply of 16" projectiles but enough powder bags and crew (where they came from is another mystery) to blast away at the Alien Cloaked Spaceship/Battle Wagon. Oops, did I give away the ending? I'd rather watch a marathon of SpongeBob Squarepants.
I can honestly and proudly say; I have not seen "X-Men", nor any of the "Transformer" movies. I did start to watch "Mars Needs Women" a few weeks ago though : lost interest as the opening credits ended.
