I found this ammo box in an antique store. Does someone know what the white triangle means? I know the white triangle was used by the 1st infantry division but I don't know if they also used it on ammo boxes.
..I would not think they would put division insignia on ammo boxes .....except someone using it for personal gear after ammo was used?
I have no idea, I have never seen such markings on ammo boxes. But the only thing that came up to me was that the 1st infantry division used the exact same triangle on their vehicles.
..I would think it would be inefficient and waste of time for supply to mark all ammo boxes for all the different units ....maybe someone else has other knowlege .... ......maybe someone put that on after the war ......to make it look ''authentic''
If you are referring to vehicle bumper codes of the U.S. Army in World War II, the white triangle was for an armored division, not an infantry division.
...I thought the Germans, etc also ID'd their vehicles ...but vehicle identification is much different than ammo boxes...
It's not only about the vehicle markings. The insignia of the 1st infantry division was this white triangle, they used it on vehicles, their uniforms and other stuff. I would like to know if they maybe also painted them on ammo boxes for some reason.
