These things aren't really my 'area' but a dealer once gave me a half-ID Disc, possibly an Eastern Front 'dug-up'. I'm curious as to what the lettering means : - PZ.AUFKL.ERS.U. AJSB:ABT.2 / STAMMKP. 1826 A My knowledge is so limited that the only thing I know is that it's blood group A. Any ideas, anyone ?
PZ AUFKL would be Panzer Aufklarung, I assume... The rest also remains an enigma with me, although I have been bidding on a few of these lately... Some of the people her are starting to get me into collecting militaria...And I'd really would like to stick with my books/photo's and documents...But I can't help myself! 'Aufklarung' means 'reconnaissance', I think ? And ABT. must be 'Abteilung' ( unit or section ). Anyone got any ideas on the rest . . . ? [ 10 July 2002, 12:43 PM: Message edited by: Martin Bull ]
I think I've solved it ! I linked into a 'Wehrpass' site ( via Sommecourt's site ) which has a listing of abbreviations. Also, under magnification, the 'J' is actually a badly-stamped 'U', making 'AUSB'. So, we have : - PANZER RECONNAISSANCE REPLACEMENT ( U ? ) TRAINING SECTION 2 / PERMANENT COMPANY The only mystery letter is the standing-alone 'U'. Any comments, anyone ? I feel a little like Sherlock Holmes !
Well Done, Martin.... Ausbilders, eh!? Well try mine that I posted before...I think I have got it, but am not sure...
Thank you for the unnamed compliment Stevin and job well done on the ID tag. Abt can also be called Detachment and can be almost any size, from Platoon to Brigade.
