Hey all. Are there any 29th Infantry Division or relatives here on the forum? I would love to here some stories. One of my relatives, Benedict Scheick, was a Private in I Co, 175th Infantry. He arrived as a replacement on August 3, 1944, having just come in from the States. He was funneled there as soon as his training finished and arrived a 29 year-old Private! After just five days on the line, he was captured by the Germans and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp, Stalag VII-A in Mooseburg, Bavaria. I was curious, would anyone know what battle or engagement he would have captured in? Right here is a little tribute I made for him. If you want a tribute for a relative of yours (any format you want), just PM me. View attachment 21115
The Maryland Military History Society has a good website on the 29th Division. Here's a link where you can download the Division AAR for August 1944. The quality is a bit dodgy so hopefully you will be able to determine where the 175th (and maybe the 3rd Battalion) was located on 8 August 44.
The 29th was fighting in and south of St Sever Calvados, which about halfway between St Lo and Mortain. The were part of XiX Corps and oriented to the SE.
