Im a sophmore in high school and I recently got notice of a term paper and chose to write it on Operation Sealion. If anyone has any information on that or radar or ultra, please let me know.
There's an article about Sealion on this page somewhere written by me. Some people liked it. It contains most aspects of the operation except the weather!

here is a link to the article andreas was talking about http://www.ww2forums.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=000053 Also the same article is at www.ww2n.com and is the second article from the top. (titled "what's new on the forums") [ 13 November 2001: Message edited by: Ron ]
basically i want to know about the use of radar and ultra during the campaign and why hitler switched to terror bombing
personally i think hitler turned to terror bombing because it was the step that made most sense for him. The third phase was over, not Necessarily because they had been beaten but because it was never intended to be a long campagn. operation sealion was as good as dead and so the best and easyest way to get britain out the war was to make pease hitler hoped terror raids would help britain do this. Another facter was the fact it was becoming winter, longer nights. It was much easier to bomb london at night than military targets in day when a massive support operation was needed from fighters. Not a major factor but worth mentioning , retaliation for RaF raid on berlin.
Hitler just didn't have the patience to keep up the attacks on the military targets and he proved he didn't have the patience time and again during the war.
i think it was simply because hitler and Goering were nuts and bad strategists...they were almost at the point where the British fighter threat would have been neutralized and blind, when in response to an accidental bombing of london by one german plane the british made a bombing raid on berlin...then in response to that german policy became bombing and terrorizing british cities...in the meantime the RAF was able to reorganize itself and rebuild radar sites. After that the germans lost control of the air. [ 15 November 2001: Message edited by: Ron ]
Andreas, I must disagree with one minute thing you said about your article on Operation Seelion. You said, that some people liked it, wrong--I think ANY person who reads it will like it--dont cut yourself short--it was a most excellent article.

Firstly, this is fine with hindsight. If Hitler and Goering had known how bad a stat the RAF was in, they would not have switched. Secondly, the commitment of Hitler to invade Britain. I do not believe that he ever wanted to go to war with Britain, let alone invade us. The German military was built to take land from neigbouring countries, specifically, Russia. It was not designed for the cross channel operation such as Sealion. While he may have gone through the plans and intentions to invade should Britain collapse quickly enough. I do not think his heart was in for a long battle against us which all the time was using resources that would be needed for the real war.
while i have to agree with bish on hitlers intentions with sealion i still think that it was not necessarily because hitler and goering were ot making enough porgess that they changed bombing stratigys. Rememberthe battle of britain was never meant to be a long campaign indeed the german high command thought it would be over in days secondly the luftwafffe was suffering as well were it may be true if theyd carried on fighter command would have seased to exits the luftwaffe would have ben practally usless too their losses were unstainable too.
