I have a sword my grandfather brought back from WWII... I only have two pictures of them but when I sent a picture into a sword specialist he said that it was prior to 1904 but before the 18th century because it has two links on the guard. I know it has a persian lions head but the eyes have no color. The jaw is open (meaning it's not jawless) Any informaiton would be helpful. I am nto looking to sell just wondering what kind of value it is so I can make sure we keep it in a safe and good condition. Thanks for all your help! ps. I found a Nazi helmet in his collection also... I am not that WWII knowledage, is their a certain name or kind that this helmet is ? I am trying to keep a booklet together of all the items he collected while in WWII. Anyhelp would be graet. Thanks for everything@ David Keckan (Grandson of Walter Neton 101st 506PIR service company)
German Swords http://www.craiggottlieb.com/data/inspect.asp?Item=1816&Filter=German+Militaria&Name=Army+Artillery+Lionshead+Sword%2C+Triple+Etched+Blade+with+Blue+Panel This might give a bit of help in regards to value.
Based on the information I've gathered, I'd place it in the Imperial German Army during the 1890s. http://www.johnsonreferencebooks.com/catalogue/weapons/imperial/army/
Imperial German Jawless Lion Head Officers sword. Listed here for 800$ I own a similar sword, the Calvary version, which I paid 400$
After a professional cleaning to the sword it may give someone a better idea of what it actually is... the sword is not jawless, and the eyes are open w/ no color in eyes. Here are some better pictures and maybe someone can decifer what type of sword it is. Thanks for all your help I really appreaciate it.
