Earlier this week I was considering getting a widescreen monitor for an enhancement to PC gaming, but since that time I'm leaning towards getting an HDTV for gaming.

The advantages are in combining everything together. This would take advantage of my home entertainment center's sound system. I can envision how I will setup my keyboard and mouse with a pullout tray.

    I am looking at a Samsung 32 inch, model number LN32B550. Some of the good things are;
-Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 70,000 to 1
    -Response time 6ms
    -1080P (1920 x1080 resolution)

When I make my purchase I will be anxious to play games such as Red Orchestra and COD WAW for the increased vertical field of vision.

Has anyone here setup their computer with a HDTV? What has your experience been?

Well, that would far surpass my 26" monitor! Its HD and I imagine I could hook it into a TV and just today i was thinking how awesome it would be to hook my PC up to a HUGE screen like we have at work!

Sorry, I know that doesn't help! And get yer arse on x-fire - my PC will be back in action this weekend!

Crossing fingers that I upgrade soon. I will be wanting to get a good trial run on the new HDTV. Will be checking in on Xfire.

I've been itching to get better performance in the FPS games I play. Up to this point I've been thinking only in terms of computer upgrades, but I have to believe that the widescreen would open things up a bit.

The most important things at the CPU and the VideoCard (and memory). The monitor doesn't effect performance, it just makes things look visually better for you.

When I stated the word performance, I was referring to the performance of the end user through seeing more screen at once. :)

Today I bought my HDTV. I'm electronics challenged so this could take a while to get connections right.

He can also get detailed answers here - part of my job is setting up electronics, including HDTV's :)

Thats really not a bad idea though, hooking an HDTV up to your PC. I'd get a small one myself, but I already have a huge monitor!

Let me know how it goes - and get on XFIRE this weekend!

At last I have set the PC up with my new HDTV.

I actually had more difficulty with setting up other components.

My PC had a DVI output on the graphics card which made it a little more difficult, this requires a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Additionally I needed to buy a mini adapter/RCA cable to get sound, this just plugs into the headphone outlet on the sound card.

I booted up the computer and turned on the TV. There was a new DMI/HDMI source entry which I selected, and there was my PC!

I adjusted the screen to 1920 by 1080.

I got into Empire Total War and COD WAW, both games easily could be changed to 1920 by 1080. They look great.

It is awesome to have the game audio piped through the home entertainment center.

I did take a crude picture but it didn't show up when I tried entering the path.

My lone negative imput is that this would be a killer on my back with prolonged use. I will need to build a pull out tray to get better ergonomics.
