When I was a boy my father owned this original 78rpm record of the marching song the 101 sings at the end of the movie"BATTLEGROUND" made in 1949 with Van Johnson ,the sad thing is that I broke this record when I was ten years old ,can anyone help me with some info on the band that reorded this song, almost 40 years have past and I cant recolect the name ,and for that matter can this record still be found Thanks P.
Yes ,as far as I can remember it went like " Jody was there when you left, your'e right and ,so on I have the record on an old tape that is very poor of quality and is more than thirty years old,I always wondered that this song was only for the movie or was indeed sung by the 101 ? P.
Actually I think the correct title is: Whatever Happened To Jody? It goes: "You had a good home when you left" "Your Right." "You had a good home when you left" "Your Right" "Jody was there when you left" "Your right" "Your baby was there when you left" "your right" "Sound Off" "One two" "Sound Off" "Three Four" "Cadence Count" "One two three four.....one two....three four." "Your baby was lonely as lonely can be" "Because Jody provided him with company" "Aint it great to have a pal" "Who worked so hard to keep up the morale" "Sound off" "One two" "Sound off" Three four" "Cadence Count" "One two three four one two.....three four" "You aint got nuthing to worry aout" "Your feet are happy till I get out" "Which wont be untill the end of the war" "In nineteen hundred and seventy four" "Sound off" "One two" "Sound off' "Three four" "Cadence Count" "One two three four one two....three four". Or something like that ;-)) Also, Jody is used in many many Cadence songs.
Jimmy Dorsey also made a, very lounge singer, version of this. I must have heard that song a thousand times growing when we would take trips. I think I still have the 8 track tape somewhere. "Jody" is the Patron Saint of 3/325 of the 82nd Airborne.....The "Blue Falcons"
How about "Abner's" song: She's got two teeth in her mouth One points North and the other points South Come a Tie-yi-yippy-yippy-yippy-yippy-yay Come a Ti-yi-yippy-yay Abner: "D'ats fer sure ...d'at's fer dang sure!" Jarvas: "Will you STOP that Abner!" Abner: "Oh...alright Jarvas. D'at's fer sure ..."
What you mean this Battleground -- (Movie Clip) Cadence Count the easiest way to download it is to use a downloading program, I use "Download Helper" DownloadHelper - Media download Firefox extension The clip is a .flv, so you will need a file converter program, I use "Doremi FLV to MP3 Converter" Doremisoft FLV to MP3 Converter - Free FLV MP3 Converter, Convert FLV to MP3 after that you good to go. There is a lot of dead air in there, so you may want to edit the clip using something like "Audacity" Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder Because of the way it works, Audacity needs a lot of free hard drive space when you are using it. It does not take up a lot of space, but it will break the sound clip up into many parts and that takes up space. Audacity also has a somewhat steep learning curve. It is a good program, once you get used to it.
Thanks formerjughead , that's intresting I am still looking for the original record ,but it is difficult to find Cheers P.
Hi Pierre, thanks for the salute and heres another one for you, butony partial. From: Heartbreak Ridge: "Model A Ford and a Tankfull of Gas" """"""""""""Repeat by the platoon"""""""""""""""" "Hand Full of P___ and a Mouthful of A__" """"""""""""Repeated by the Platoon."""""""""""" I also kinds liked the song that Harry Dean Stanton played and sang while playing his Harmonica in: Kellys Heroes-something about his Hound named Blue. "Come On Blue (ROW ROW) You Good Dawg You."
Heh heh, from good ol Gunny: R. Lee Ermey in: Full Metal Jacket. I liked that film quite a bit. "This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for fighting, and this is for fun." "I dont know but ive neen told, that Eskimo P____ is mighty cold". "One two three four, I love the Marine Corps" "repeat" "repeat" Actually, I dont think it was meant as a Cadence tune but more for a punishment tune ;-))
Vaughn Monroe and His Orchestra- Sound Off (The Duckworth Chant) This song has been bugging me for the last few days, since I incorrectly stated it was Jimmy Dorsey who sang the song. Here it is: YouTube - Vaughn Monroe - Sound Off
