Howdy folks, just got to a computer to show you my new painting of the Bismarck. This is her during her commissioning ceremony at the Blohm and Voss shipyards in Hamburg on August 24, 1940. She is tied up to the fitting out pier. It's done with oil, on a 16 x 20 inch canvas. I based it off of similar photographs taken, however, the angle of the ship here is taken from an old model I have of the ship. The ship at this time was actually not complete yet. Some of her guns were not installed yet, as well as her range finders on the superstructure and the one further aft. Her big cranes were installed at this time, but the booms were lying across the deck so that they could not be seen (I visited a Bismarck forum to find this out.) The ship was launched from the gantry to the extreme left in the painting. At the time of the commissioning the very beginnings of "Battleship H" were laying in it. The ship was cancelled and the yard I believe constructed mostly u-boats thereafter. I still probably will take it off the wall to do some touchups. But for now, it's done. Anyway, hope you enjoy looking at it!
You don't need a "job" Darren! Great art work, you really should consider putting a couple up for sale just to see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised. Keep at er' Buddy.
Ooops, I thought this was a thread about the dazzle camoflage painting on the Bismark. Silly me. Oh, and the painting looks good too.
I can see now why artists like to paint the ship with her dazzle paint on. It gives the painting a little more color. I like my results, although painting a grey ship under a grey sky leads to kind of a dull image in some respects. Anyway, thanks for the salutes and the kind comments folks!
Wow Darren, thats amazing good work! They got right why to look for an job! With those painting abilities you would have shown Bob Ross who of both is the better artist. Great work!
