If anyone is interested, I have one for sale. All prongs are presant as is the backing plate and material. The material does'nt glow with black light testing (so I have been told) I am NOT convinced that it is a WW2 TDB because of one feature. All the photos I have seen in the book: "Tank Killers" has all the real ww2 TDB's looking the same. ((Explanation)) The photos show all the real TDB's with the end of the tanks barrel reaching to the rear end of the headlight, while mine shows it reach evenly to the head of the light. I am convinced that my TDB is a 1957 West German re-issue. This is because all the features are exactly as the ww2 TDB's are with the exception of the barrel lenght. This is however, the correct length for the Austrian made 1957 TDB re-issues. TDB fakes are all known to have a long thin barrel-not thick as the originals or like mine is which gives them an appearance of a "a long needle-like barrel that will go past the frone-end of the headlight. "Tank Killers" also has a photo or two of an Austrian made TDB like mine is. Genuine 1957 re-issues are as collectable as the WW2 piece is-because not very many were issued to the vets who were serving in the Bundeswehr. If interested, my price for the re-issue is exactly what I paid which is $75.00. I will insure the package (at my cost). Current prices for 1957 re-issue TDB's are appx $90.00-to-$120.00. Detlev Niemann of Hamburg had some for sale recently and they were priced with-in this price range. Original WW2 TDB's go for appx $175.00 to $225.00 or more, depending who you buy it from. These prices quoted here are what I would expect to pay for one through the dealers I buy from. My disclaimer is: that since I am not an expert on TDB's, this is why I am selling it as a 1957 re-issue and not a WW2 badge. I am positive enough in my knowledge in the badge to post all this here for you to judge. Dealers I buy from are: Alden and Janet hamilton of Black Cross Militaria. Detlev Niemann of Niemanns of Hamburg, Germany. Kai Rossmann of Weitze, also of Hamburg. Diane Schrieber of Brandenburg Historica from Keene N.H. Paul Kosek of P&K Collectables. Thanks for letting me speak my piece-and hopefully sell it. Ciao--Carl.
Hi Ryan--being I think its a 1957 issue--I guess whatever a repo might sell for--I guess $20.00 as Im not current on 1957 awards prices. The only thing im sure that is real about it is the strip, which I paid $10.00 for but will not charge anything for. If its real--you will be getting a near $500.00 dollar badge for $20.00. I just dont want to mislead anyone on it even if i'll be losing out on about $55.00. [ 03. November 2002, 04:48 PM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
How about $20.00? but let me see if I can dig it up first--I want to make sure its not in storage before any money is sent. Im pretty sure its where I think it is but ill check tomorrow to make sure.
Ill have to wiat till my bro-in-law gets home--he has the key to the shed with some of my stuff in storage there--and it should be in this storage shed--I dont remember moving the leathed bag elsewhere that I had kept it in.
Ooops, sorry for not getting back to you on it. My brother in law has the ket to the storage buliding but will not be back til monday--when he gets back--i'll go in there and look for it.
Ryan, I just found it this morning--it wasnt where I thought it was--it was in an un-opened box I found in my room. Anyway--all pieces are presant--but remember--one of the prongs is broken but still with the rest of the group. Everything else is A OK--the cloth strip, backing plate and badge itself.
I dont know--I dont know what the rates are these days. Only trouble is--if I get in Aussie Dollars--I dont know where I can go to exchange it--unless I can send it to someone on these forums and they can do it.
Hi Panzerknacker; Todays rates would be 36.00 AUD to get 20 USD. You might be able to get an American Express Travelers Check to send to Carl.
