    Hello,

Does any one know more of the blocking of the Port of Ostend in May 1940 with block ships.
This was a task for Admiral Keyes who also blocked succesfully the harbours of Nieuwpoort and Zeebrugge.,
but it is possible that the French sunk some ships at Ostend.

    regards,

    Cnock.

Google "Operation Lyster", make sure to use quotes.

It was on, then cancelled to use Ostend as an evacuation port, then on again, before being cancelled for the last time as the British focused their efforts on Dunkirk an no forces could be spared.

Zeebrugge(sp?) was successfully blocked on the second attempt.

    Many thanks!

Yes, Zeebrugge was of no use anymore for the Germans, they could not remove the blockships near the locks.
