A bomb-aimer lying prone on the floor of a Fairey Battle Bomber adjusts his bomb-sight, an intricate instrument that measured with extraordinary accuracy, allowing as it does for the speed of the plane the wind pressure and the height, and so determining the exact moment when the bombs are to be released. The bombs were carried in the wings on either side of the bomb-aimer. The Fairey Battle carried a crew of three.
