    Thanks for the review, Ross. I did not realize how intertwined the British government and industry really were. I liked the comparison between the cost of a tank vs. the cost of a bomber. There seems to be the same kind of competition among the services that occurred, more disastrously, in Japan.

    I think there is always comptetition for resources. It is just a question of how accute the problem becomes. In Britian the process was managed. I would suggest reading this book alongside Seb Ritchie's work on aircraft production and David Edgerton's The Warfare State.
