The main armament of the two great 33,900-ton British battleships Nelson and Rodney was the 16-inch gun. The ships had three turrets, each containing three of these immense guns. This drawing shows as much as could be revealed of the inside of one of the turrets back in 1940. Each gun was 62 feet long and the 2,461 lb shells could be hurled a distance of over 20 miles.

    The Nelson Class

The Nelson class was a class of two battleships (Nelson and Rodney) of the British Royal Navy. This was the only British battleships built between the Revenge class and the King George V class, ordered in 1936.
