Unlike our American brethern we only have to put up with a couple of months of the this yap before the election unlike the Americans with their three year election campaigns.

Yes, I do feel rather sorry for them, 3 months of this pap is bad enough.

I heard a debate on Radio 4 the other day, in which representatives of each major party (and the Liberal Democrats! :D ) all agreed that in an election, what should happen is that all parties should put forward their policies and future plans, with limited (if any) sniping at other parties and no jumping on popular bandwagons.
I must admit I did shout "well why don't you do that then?" at the radio...

WE have 3 main parties, lead by Tom, Dick and Harry.
The party lead by Tom (Blair, labour) is supposed to be the party for the Working man, They tax the hell out of the working men left, He tries to act like a Conservative but his party want to be socialist. While he stabs you in the back he grins with a 'can I punch your lights out grin'. Set lots of targets so people can fiddle the figures so he looks good.

Then we have Dick (howard Conservative) Tells us what tom is doing wrong but doesn't know how to put it right. They are for the rich and so taxes the hell out of the working man.

Then Harry (can't remember his name small nothing party) not quite as left wing as the labour party but more left wing than Blair. Not got a hope in hells chance but might get enough to form a coalition with labour.

    Hope this helps.

Wow! To think, clueless politicians abound as much in Britain as they do here! :D

They are not clueless but very clever, it is just that they are liars. Like most elections which liar do you mistrust the least, then vote for him/her.

Although there are the three main parties (from left to right) Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative. There are many other also, who each hold a few seats in the house of commons. Although these such parties have no chance of getting into power in this election, they may steal enough votes from the big 3 to influence the final outcome. These such parties include:

The Green Party- Socialism meets envoronmentlism(sp)

The UK Independance Party- Wants Britain to withdraw from the EU (4th biggest in Britain)

The British National Party- Very right wing indeed

Except that Labour is now 'New Labour', Tony Blair's creation.
Which means that it is Conservative in everything but name

    Ebar's guide to British Politics

    The Big Three

Labour Party: Current ruling party led by Mister Tony I'm-Bush's-pal Blair. In theory Labour is a socialist party, fact that many Britons now find amusing. Labour got into power more due to the incompetence of the previous Conservative government than anything else. Labour has constantly proved better at talking the talk than walking the walk. Will win the question is by how much.

Conservative ( Or Tory ) Party: Second largest party led by ( at time of writing ) Michael -probably-soon-to-be-stabbed-in-the-back- Howard. The last Tory government got the boot due to it's tendency to shoot itself in the foot every few weeks and have been kept out of power thanks to their tendency to go into spasms every time someone says the word Europe. They seem to have got the worst of this out of their system at the moment but they still have the problem that Labour have stolen all of their traditional platforms; we'll do all the same things as labour except err... we'll do them better, is not the most inspiring message.

Liberal Democrats: Lead by Charles who? Kennedy. The third largest and protest voters party of choice. The Liberals pretty much eviscerated themselves during the eighties when they split into two parties, one of which promptly disappeared with out a trace. However the Liberals are now slowly gaining ground on a platform that includes switching to a proportional representation voting system, join the Euro and all the other wild stuff the main two parties won't touch with a bargepole. For the moment they are pushing to become the second biggest party and the official opposition.

    Misc odd ball parties

UK Independence Party: A party that basically wants to turn the clock back to oh... at least the nineteen thirties when foreigners knew their place, a womans place was in the home and beer was tupence a pint. Did well in the last European elections, which I find really despressing.

Veritas party: Set up by a former day time TV presenter after he got the boot from the Independence Party. Claims he will change the face of British Politics. There is no response I can come up with that will sound sufficently sarcastic.

British National Party: The skinhead equivalent to the above. Position primarily revolves round the concept of sending foreigners "back to where they come from" and all the rest of the froth at the mouth nonsense these people come out with.

National Socialist Party: I have no idea if this party even has polities. Going by the placards they merely seem to be against what ever is in the news. So presumably this week they are against the pope being dead.

Monster Raving Looney Party: A party whose "Glory days" are behind it now that its founder is dead.

Respect: Founded by some Labour MP who left in a huff over Iraq. I had never hear of them until pointed out by david the odds are I'll never hear of them again.

The Green Party: Tree huggers with English accents.

Edit to include Respect coalition and Green Party and correct entry to MRLP entry.

Let's not forget the "formidable" Green party, and the "mighty" Respect coalition.

Also, The Monster Raving Looney Party is alive & well. See

    www.omrlp.com/

I believe that it's founder; David (screaming Lord) Sutch died, and did not take his own life.

Either my TV screen is on the blink or Tony Blair is starting to wear the same make up/fake tan that Robert Kilroy Silk is.

    We want more!

Thanks Ebar. Shows again that British people do have humour, as opposed to the Dutch. I'll try to do something similar with the next Dutch elections. ;)

    Letter from the Daily Telegraph

So W F Deedes thinks we will have a hung parliament (comment April 6th). I couldn't think of a better thing to do with them.
