British Korean Vet Mistakenly Got Purple Heart

    "A BRITISH serviceman was mistakenly awarded a Purple Heart while recovering in hospital from appendicitis.
    National Serviceman Terry Adkins was presented with the medal, which is given to those wounded or killed while serving with the US military, when he was taken ill while serving on the frontline in Korea.
    He received the Purple Heart from an American Army general despite not being an American and not having been wounded in action.
    Terry just happened to be in the American military hospital following an operation to remove his appendix at the same time as wounded soldiers were being honoured on behalf of the US president.
    Terry was called up at 19 and served with the Royal Fusiliers in Korea from 1950 to 1953. "
