Alexander Patterson Scotland ( Schottland?) was originally a British army colonel ( secret service? ) but managed to serve in the German army as staff officer until Oct 1942 (?).After returning to England he was responsible for the information on German army and the most important German army prisoners. There was a book on him by J. ALvin Kugelmass and as well a film later on ( 1958-59 ) The two-headed spy starring Michael Caine. See as well http://www.ww2forums.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=000225 Does anybody know more of him/this? I cannot find more in the net or my books.
Alexander Scottland(Schottland) served in the Germany Colonial Army during WW1. He seved in Africa during the War the Germans put him in a stockade. He escaped from the stockade and single handedly captured the whole fort of some 150 men. Scottland then went to Britain where he was approached by Sir Winston Churchill to spy on the Germans. He made his way to Germany and convinced the Germans that he was loyal to Germany and his time in Britain made him realize that the British were decadent etc. After the war he wasn't allowed in Britain so he went to Argentina, and made money as a businessman. He also rose to the rank of Lt.Colonel in the secret Service. During WW2 he went back to Germany and became the Chief of Logistics and a Lt. General. He did not return to England until aafter the war. He was a witness during the Nuremburg trials. I'll try to get you some more information later. I first learned about him in a book called "Tales from the Black" I think that's the name of the book, but it's at my Grandmas house.
Thanx Reddog2k, sounds very interesting! As well seems that there were several British Secret Service men serving in the German army but he´s the one I got knowledge of so far.
Before WW1 Alexander Scottland joined the German colonial Army as a cavalryman. He was only fifteen when he enlisted, I believe that he recieved his commission when he was 21 or so Alexander Scottland did capture a German stockade singlehandedly, but he called in some Boers, and it took them 1 or 2 days to arrive. During this time he had the Germans locked up in stable, and he managed to hold them off with only a machine gun. Scottland was actually one of the first people to jump out of a airplane with a parachute, thats how he inserted into Germany. He only had one practice jump before his real jump. As Alexander Schottland he served as a logistics officer in the Kaisers Army. At first no one trusted him, but he eventually gained the confidence of his superiors. I haven't seen the movie "The Two Headed Spy" but, As I remember he never had a contact. He reported to the Secret Service through a radio. A group of German soldiers saw him transmitting a message. They then went over to see him, their leader (I think he was a seargent) was surprised to see a General. Schottland then shot the men, and reported that he found them killed.
Thank you reddog2 for the info. on Alex Scotland. I served in WW2 in the British Army , but after the war always wondered who he really was. There was only a short description of him being a witness at the Nuremburg Trials, just after the war. Despite the variations in your inputs, basically the facts are there.
