A torpedo fresh from the factory being manoeuvred into position for loading into one of the British submarines. The torpedo proved to be one of the deadliest weapons ever invented. During 1914-1918 no fewer than 4,000 merchant ships of all nationalities were destroyed by torpedoes, and in WWII the tonnage of naval and other craft lost had reached astronomical figures at the time this picture was taken which was 1942.
