This remarkable veteran flew with the Fleet Air Arm of the British Navy. His most exciting mission was to bomb the German battleship, the Tirpitz. I interviewed him recently about his experiences. To read my Wartime Wednesdays blog post, click here: www.elinorflorence.com/blog/tirpitz.

I wonder if some of them thought "' o, just another mission" ? excellent pics in Fred's link... on ship, "calm" and standard duty before the attack , ....then the machines of war creating unimaginable noise, hell, danger, death, fear, joy.etc
Another fantastic post. Thank you for your contributions. Yugoslavpartizan if you didn't look around at some of her previous blogs I urge you to do so. Might prove an interesting model for you as well. I suspect you have access to at least a few remaining people from that time period whose stories are completely unknown to most of us.
Another great blog entry, Elinor. I enjoyed reading about Mr. Abbott's recollections a great deal. Wish him a Happy Birthday for me.
