Hi all, I'm Looking for information on the armoured brigades used by the british 14th army in burma during the advance on Meikteila and Rangoon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ross
Welcome to the Forums, Mahross - and thanks for asking about an area that doesn't appear here that often ! I'm no expert on Burma, but have you seen : - http://www.wolftree.freeserve.co.uk/Burma/Burma.html ( It also has a specialised bibliography )
Great link Martin Bull. I know little about armoured brigades in Burma and wouldn't really be surprised if there were none as Burma is poor tank country and most of the fighting was done by the air forces, Navy and Infantry.
I do know that there was at least three armoured brigades in burma, the 254, 255, and the no. for the third i forget. what i'm interested in is wether they were used in operational manouevre warfare or just simply as support for the infantry.
It looks like the book you may need is 'Tank Tracks To Rangoon - The Story of British Armour In Burma' by Bryan Perrett ( Robert Hale, 1992 ) although I have to say that I haven't read it.... PS : The excellent Military History Bookshop are currently advertising a copy for £14.00 ; http://www.militaryhistorybooks.com/ Catalogue No 11548-01CA [ 22.
