Does anyone collect military buttons ?

I've been giving it a little thought recently as I've seen the odd great coat etc with brass buttons intact.

Would anyone consider taking the buttons off and disposing of the coat or would that be considered sacrilege ?

    buttons

WW2 greatcoats are greatly prized by re-enactors, I've given two away recently, BUT not with the 'stay-brite' buttons. I've one or two (buttons) among my odds and sods, I've also got a WW2 British tank suit free to good home in uk. Pre WW2 all British Regiments had their own buttons quite collectable now.

Thanks, Merlin - something for me to think about then.
