I'm getting dirty looks from one of my Cats as I type this in ;-)) But, I have to ask, What are Cats good for? I mean, all they seem to do is sleep all-day in between snacking and drinking water. They love to play and scratch up your furniture. They THINK that they own everything-even your house. They jump on top of everything they KNOW they are not supposed to get on. They are demanding, they are finicky, and they can be dangerous at times. They scratch the heck out of your wooden doors demanding to be let out of the house at that exact moment and if your a few seconds late in letting them out-they pout, narrow their eyes at you probably plotting somekind of revenge on you because it took six seconds for you to walk over to the door and open it-instead of the usual five. Cats walk arounf thinking the World is theirs and have the attitudes and egos to go aong with it. If you have particularly fuzzy Cats like all three of mine are-they constantly shed tons of hair all over the house just to make you to HAVE to pull out the vacuum cleaner daily-to get rid of the fur. They keep their heads in their food dishes and in your way when you try to pout some food into the bowls-and being in the way-causes you t spill some out on the floor-making you take out the broom to sweep it up-and then the mop. Cats bathe almost constantly when they are not eating or sleeping. They like to sleep all day so they can roam around all night long wasting their valuable energy. If one is not alert-they like to silently lay down next to your feet and if you stand up-you have a big time problem from keeping from stepping on their tails. Oh Brother-if you do that-revenge is the name of the game. As a possible sort of revenge-they might just chew your Tennis Shoes shoestrings in half-of play with your cellphone causing it to get lost. Well, I think Cats are worth the trouble, because they are fun to watch, uaually quiet, clean, loyal and all that WOT. They like to climb up into ones lap and either bathe or sleep-whichever causes them to use less energy? Cats lay in all-kinds of interesting positions making themselves much cuter with each pose. One thing that a person can do to get some sweet revenge on a vengful Cat-is to barely touch the tiny hairs on the ends of their ears making them flip them constantly as if a house fly were trying to come in for a landing. Anyone else have any thoughts about Cats and if they are useful for anything? :-D
They'd be good at repelling annoying people if they peed in strategic locations...but i don't know about clean. If my room mate is out of town for a few days, the cats poop and throw up on her bedroom carpet in protest. Its rather disgusting. Not to mention their annoying habit of licking anything plastic or rubber (tv remote, plastic bags, your watch, cellphone etc), or if they have dark fur, they love to shed on light colored furniture so that it looks like some one just shaved their head there. Then, when they eat some of their own fur, they cough it back up and make disgusting noises. *Note to reader: Poster HATES cats
I have a Cat. Mine is sleeping right behind me as I post this. Yes they do. My cat does own the house. Yes they do. My cat tries to wake me up at all hours of the night. Pretty much. My cat is not let out of the house. I thought they owned the world. My cat is not fuzzy and it still sheds like crazy. Exactly. Ditto. My cat is extremely naughty (at night) Yes. +1. Yes. Ditto. Yes. With my cat all you have to do is hold her.
two fun things to do to cats, first cut off their whiskers and watch them run into stuff. Second put a clothes pin on the tail of a young male as he walks by with "his tail in the air". I had to use a blanket to stop that particular reaction! My wife was not pleased. The best thing about cats is that if you throw them out in Montana, and don't do anything they will survive. They are decent mouse killers, if given the chance. But they are also the masters of the path of least resistance. Feed one, it counts on that first. Stop feeding one, they figure out how to live without you. If you want loyalty, get and keep a dog. You want entertainment, get and keep a cat. If you really want entertainment, have a cat (six toed, Siamonese), a dog (Boston Terrier), and a ferret in the same house. The ferret just enjoyed the heck out of pissing off the cat (too quick in mock battles), and able to chase it into places the cat felt were her's. The dog got tired of of even bothering with the ferret (Kiko), and just ignored it unless they were in the field killing rodents under bales. Then they teamed up well. Somehow the cats never did as well outside of the "home" enviroment. There were a number of "barn cats" on the farm, but they were almost feral. Anyone who thought they were just "cats" soon found out that was a mistaken opinion.
My two cats bring me gifts. Sometimes it is squirrels (both ground and the flying variety), rabbits, lizards, frogs, birds (lots of birds) a few snakes and a mole once. Sometimes the gifts they bring in are dead, but for the most part, they are alive and kicking, which makes for a fun time for all, after the gift is caught and released back into the wild that is. I have a cat door so I do not have to deal with the litter box thing, so I have to put up with the unsolicited gifts from my cats. It's a good trade-off though.
Cats are alright, as long as they belong to someone else. If we had a cat, it would have to be a outside cat, I don't want them rubbing their butts all over the kitchen counters and my pillow when they sit down.
Thanks for the laughs Gents. Also, when I was younger-I did that clothes pin thing. It was absolutely hilarious to see the Cat go round and round trying to knock it off his tail. My Cats are nar me and have angry expressions in their ears and eyes-especially Shasta-my Female Cat.
one good point that cats are good for- cat's don't bark at 3 o;clock in the mornings like dogs do all the time. omg,i do that all the time,i touch the ends of the cats ears ,so they will flicker,i just can't help it. i love cats and dogs but cats are in more of faver than dogs, only cause Cat don't bark at night time!
What are cats good for? I'll ask mine. . She seems to bothered cleaning herself on my bed to answer. That reminds me, must chuck her off she's not allowed on the bed. I think the best thing to do with cats is to annoy them, the ear thing works well. I actually have a photograph of my cat dressed up in doll's clothes. The look on her face is priceless!
the best thing to do with a cat, especially if they're the playfull type, is get a long string and spin around in a circle with the cat chasing the string, then lift it up in the air. My cat goes airborn and does like, a backwards summersault, lands and then runs away until the string starts moving again. it's halarious. and another good annoying trick, if they're laying on their back, you can push their back feet ever so slightly. it drives my cat nuts, she squirms all over the place.
I don't have a cat , but I encourage the nieigbour's cats to hunt in my garden . They keep the mice away and kill the pigeons. Fair enough, so from time to time they get a cup of milk.

I find this works best with the long haired Persian breed. Put it on your hand like a glove puppet butt first. It then can be used as a final polisher for the car paintwork on Sunday morning.Afterwards they can spend all week cleaning themselves but are more difficult to catch the next time the car needs cleaning......Only joking!
