The new tanks have air conditioning, as well as improved protection against roadside bombs and suicide vehicles.

To bad they units deployed won't get them before summer.

Well they can get those tank shaped air fresheners to give their used Leopard 2's that new tank smell.

But really, new tanks lose most of their value when you drive them off the lot.

 

just a quick questions, Does the Netherlands have a large tank force?

 

According to Wiki, a bit over 200 MBTs of which 100 are on their way to Canada, don't know if they plan to replace them or just reduce their armoured strength overall. Probably quite large for the country's size, but not large compared to the US Army.

 

I know that at the beginning of OIF that the 1st Marine Division consisted up to 22,000 men and 8,000 vehicle's. so how many tanks does the US have then?

 

Of what I've read, America's armored forces consist of about 28,000 vehicles, of which ~8,000 are M1 Abrams tanks....

You will have to check yourself how may of those tanks are in active use and how many (if any) are kept in reserve

 

In 1981 the Dutch bought 445 Leopards II of wich now are still 110 (2A6) in service....

of those 445, 115 were sold to austria (2A4 with 1 hull rejected because of damage).
Of those 330 left 180 were upgraded to 2A5 (now 2A6).
52 of the none upgrades were sold to Norway.
so that would mean 258 of wich are 180 2A6
Canada bought 80 2A4's and 20 2A6
Dutch now have 110...so 110 and 100 equals 210...so what happened to the other 48 (Dutch reserve probable)?

All M1 series Abrams were built in Lima, Ohio if memory serves.
They aren't building any new ones... the production line is closed.
What they do is send them back for upgrades and refurbs as technological advances are made over time.

I know the depot in Anniston, Alabama refurbishes Abrams tanks back to new status and with upgrades but I think you are correct about building new ones. AFAIK insofar as new contracts go they are already researching the next generation MBT that will replace the Abrams.
