As many of you may recall, back in the day Ripleys was a newspaper article that told of amazing stories for which you could of course, Believe it or Not!!.. It has been over twenty years since I have seen the newspaper cut out which was contained in our family photo album. The story was of a Canadian soldier from Nova Scotia serving in France. One night whilst standing guard in a tower or bunker I cannot exactely remember all the specifics there was an explosion from an incoming round in the not too far off distance. Diving down to get cover the soldier was peppered by shaprnel. When it was clear to do so the soldier got up and found some pieces of shrapnel near by him. Once cool enough to pick one up it was discovered that a fragment of the round had a serial number on it. Amazingly the soldier was shocked to discover that the shells serial number was exactely the same as his Dog Tag number. This soldier was my Mothers Uncle. And As amazing as this story sounds I did see the newspaper cut out. Sadly the photo albums have been lost somewhere in the family over the last twenty five years. About a year ago I sent an email to Ripleys asking for thier help in finding out anything I could about this particular incident. But there was no reply. Anyone with any advice on how to track down info on this would be a great help. I wish I had more to go on but alas I was a young lad when I last had access to the article.
