    "Captain David Phillips, who has died aged 91, was born with flying in his veins, holding a flying licence until his 80th birthday, having accumulating a remarkable 31,037 flying hours in a long list of military, commercial and light aircraft.

    The son of Captain Percival Phillips DFC, owner of the Cornwall Aviation Company, a regular performer in the flying circus, David William Phillips was born on November 24 1924 at St Austell, Cornwall, and educated at West Buckland School in North Devon, where he was a member of the OTC. In 1940 he joined the Bristol Aviation Company as an apprentice before joining the RAF Volunteer Reserve in November 1942."
