Highest-ranking Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan, Col. Parker, 42, of the Royal Canadian Regiment, has been identified
as the Canadian soldier killed in a suicide car bombing in Kabul - the highest-ranking member of the Canadian Forces to die
in Afghanistan since the mission began in 2002.

Col. Parker was in Kabul to interact with international organizations there in an effort to prepare his team for their upcoming
mission, Col. Simon Hetherington, deputy commander of Task Force Kandahar, told a news conference.

β€œHe was a career infantry officer β€” a proud member of the Royal Canadian Regiment β€” who excelled in virtually every position
he held in the Army,” Hetherington said.
