Hello everybody Came across this site by a google search for something on WW2. My Grandfather (1920-2007) served 39-45 in the British MN. I now hold some of his certificates, documents and medals. I’m hoping to put all the bits together. Funnely enough I recall him telling “the storry” in a humorous way. Years of war sounded like lots of fun (to a young boy). Now I want/need to find out more about my Grandfathers service in the MN. He told me, he’d served on convoys, and I know he got the atlantic star. He also holds some russian issued medals, and he told me lot’s of tales about the fiords, the Russians and something about Estonian. I found out that he served on two ships that got sunk, luckely prior to loss (the Navarino - PQ17 and the Dromore Castle - Mine). I’ve not been able to identify the name of the ship he served on from dec ’41- june ’45. I have the number (165996) but my google-fu could not get me the name yet and many more ??? waiting. Howdy Dennis. My grandfather did the same. I think it was his way of sharing me in a manner what I would understand (at the time) without scarying me with the gore. I wish I had him around when I was older so I could ask questions to gain a better understanding. That is how I came about this forum eight years ago.......my my how time has flown. Happy posting.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I’m glad I joined, not so much for my self, but more as to honor my grandfathers duty and to never forget what all these guys did, so that we can now be here and have freedom. He would be proud to see he’s not forgotten, and never will be!
