The Company Commander is normally a Captain and leads/commands a company. Depending upon how it is organized it has multiple sub-units. It's immediate sub-unit is the platoon, normally commanded by a junior officer assisted by a mid level NCO, probably a Staff Sergeant. The next lower level was the squad and it was normally led by a sergeant. The next lower level was a team or section.
A WWII USMC F-series TOE would have a Captain in charge of a company. He would have a Headquarters section. Three Rifle Platoons, commanded by a 1st or 2d Lieutenant. Each platoon made up of three 13 man squads commanded by a sergeant. The squad was made up of three four man fire teams. There was also a weapons platoon, consisting of multiple machine gun sections made up of machine gun squads. There was also a 60mm mortar section.
