I was snooping around ComingSoon.net when I stumbled across this.

Das Boot (the original uncut version) will be released on 2 discs on 1 June for R1 (17 May for R2). Running time 293 minutes.

I look forward to upgrading from my old VHS version of the complete series.

That is something to look foward to. Five hours of a great movie. I hope it is in English, I hate having to read subtitles and watch the action at the same time.

Watching a film in the original language does lend alot to the atmosphere though. Point taken about trying to watch the action sequences at the same time!

Yes - it's a difficult one to call. I've seen 'Das Boot' in both dubbed and subtitled formats ; it did somehow seem much more 'real' in subtitles. The voices conveyed much more emotion and feeling, even though I only know about four words of German.... :(

( Also, many of the action scenes in the movie don't contain dialogue ! ;) )

Watching "Das Boot" dubbed is like going to the teathre and watching "Romeo & Juliet" in Turkish, or some Wagnerian opera in Italian... [IMG]
