I served on her sister ship Albany (CG-10). Missile storage for the fore and aft Talos launchers was in the former magazines for turrets 1 and 3. #2 magazine was converted to the Combat Information Center, an unusually well protected location, being under the armored deck and inside the armor belt. If one was going on watch as Officer of the Deck, one would first visit CIC for a briefing and then have to climb twelve decks to the bridge! There was an elevator for senior officers' use. I actually had a key because one of my duties at sea detail was to bring the pilot up to the bridge, but otherwise a lowly LTJG had to use the ladders. Chicago and Columbus were originally Baltimore class cruisers; Albany was an Oregon City, with the same hull, machinery, main and secondary armament but the superstructure more compact to improve AA fields of fire, including the two funnels trunked into one. The CG conversion made them all the same.
