"Young men with old eyes." When I was in the hospital in '72 they brought a load of nursing school students around the wards. They cried a lot. It was useful for letting the future nurses know what a tour in the Navy would be like. (It was popular at the time to do a four year tour in the Navy and getting your student loans paid off.)

After reading his background, I see he was from Plymouth, North Carolina, as I have visited there many times. My wife’s sister and her family live there. He really went through a lot and was definitely deserved of the Medal of Honor. A very interesting story.
