    hmmm, hard to say.
If Japan attacked Russia at the start of 1942 the germans would have a change on taking down Russia. With Russia under theier control the have the manpower, resources and factories to build enough war material to take it on against the Brits.

Germany lost the war in the winter of 1941. If they had taken Moscow then, Russia might have surrenderd (or at least Stalin and STAVKA (russian military high command) might of been captured). That is my opinion.

How about a German-Polish Pact against the USSR?
Poland lets German forces move through its territory and attack eastward in say 1940 (remember Russia had fought Poland in the 1920s so there was recent as well as historic emnity between them.

Britain & France dont come into the war (in fact, the Winter War against Finland might bring more countries in against the Soviets -- think of it as a re-run of intervention in 1919)

Germany is seen as a good(ish) guy in the fight against communism. Eventually Poland gets swallowed up, Western world realises that Nazi Germany is not quite what it seems, but things are too late...

Peace with Britain in 1940 on pretty much any terms would by default stop the Americans from becoming involved in the a European war. With no destractions from the west Germany I would say would stand a fair chance of knocking down the USSR.

In this scenerio the Japanese would be royaly stuffed since they'd be facing a US with no European commitments.

But the Japanese don't have to attack the Americans. As long as the leave the Filipines alone and only concentrate against the Dutch Indies (Saying that they come germany to an aid to defezt the Dutch that are still resisting).

Possibly but if the Americans do decide to stick their nse in the Japanese have problems even bigger than the ones they faced in reality. Plus. With No European war the RN is also a more serious factor. In short the Japanese are boxed in and any move they take, bar backing down (probably politically impossible) is going to leave them exposed.

Attacking the Phillipines wasn't their only mistake. Because of their attrocities against China the US was putting pressure on the Japanese through other means, like embargoes. This was only going to get worse unless the Japanese moderated their actions against other Asian nations.

There was no chance that germany will win the war.Eaven if they do that, who will controll all ocupayed teritory? In Yugoslavia, german had 12 division for fighting vs guerilla, and eaven if they manage 2 invade and win USSR in war, that would be with heawy losses, and no man power 2 keep it ocupated.Anotther story is that hitler forgot on Stalin. He allrdy take whole europe ,just England (coz it is a island) and USSR was intact.Or maybe packt with Stalin?
    That is anotther ishue...

Well, Patton wanted, for sure, to fight the Russians after victory over Germany was achieved. However, that would never happen in reality no matter what Patton wished.(Could you imagine Patton crossing over Elbe and invading Soviet occupied territory??)

Yes - but then he gets cashiered for being a bloody idiot.
    :D

I read a (fictional) book once in which the death of Patton was actually an assassination, because he was causing too much US-USSR tension.

Here is a nice Patton styl remarck. During the victory parade in Berlin, Zjoekov tolled Patton: "See that tank, it can penetrated ....mm of armor at ...... range"
Patton said: "That's nothing, if my men dare to fire before the target is at ...meter (i believe it was 700 or something), i have them courtmarshalled for being coward"

needles to say that Zjoekov was stunned
