December 1944 Republic of Gemarian Free States, office of the Minister of National Security The RGFSAF-A (Republic of Gemarian Free States Armed Forces - Army) has a requirement for a reconnaissance vehicle, which must satisfy the following: minimum speed of 60 mph on roads minimum speed of 25 mph cross-country (grassland) minimum crew of 2 - driver and commander or commander/ gunner dismount recce section of 3 (forward observer team with dismountable radio) stowage for dismount crew weapons (automatic rifles and radio as above) maximum weight of ten tonnes (this is an absolute - applications even 1 kg over 10 ten tonnes will not be considered) armour to be proof against weapons up to 12.7 mm at combat ranges low height - as low as possible minimum armament to be a 20 mm cannon, turreted or pintle mount ideally to be roofed (to prevent mortar hits taking out the vehicle crew and passengers) amphibious capability desirable - track/ wheel drive while water-borne is acceptable, no requirement for propellors to enter service December 1945. Tracks or wheels are not specified, this is an engineering decision, but wheeled solutions would be preferred (In case you're wondering - my country in an up-coming wargames campaign will be involved in warfare starting at the end of '45 and the rules state that vehicles less than 10 tonnes are cheaper and so are wheeled types - I'm saving myself some design work by getting you guys to do it  ) Submissions by Friday 14th midday UK time please, you have a week and a half. I assume that teams are much the same, but it doesn't matter too much, those picking the same country may choose to work with each other or not. Also look at http://www.fun-online.sk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2986, the next one I set (assuming I get to set another) will be for an aircraft...
I am so game. This one will be very tough Oli - particularly the armour. You may be underestimating the penetrating power of a .50cal MG!
I did say at combat ranges, and I'm assuming ball ammo, not specialised AP.... (Actually, by the rules we're using armoured vehicles by definition are proof against all small arms and MGs, unless the player specifies AP ammo, and I won't give my enemy chance to change belts after opening up on my infantry :bang: ) Will relax the requirement to 50 mph IF the vehicle is amphibious, I've been thinking that an amphib could cause my opponent's some problems
If it helps, and checking some of my earlier calculations: This is weight in kg divided by (length x width x height (overall)) in metres. Just a rule of thumb and something which will, one day, be refined
