any1 ever check out Critical Past? a lot of 'different' films here if you'd like to dissect history https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=critical+past+ww2 Critical Past has a bunch of historic films...sorry if this has been posted before
Bronk, There is a lot of authentic footage here, Much of it pretty gruesome but no doubt real. I have looked through a good bit and will continue. Thank you for posting. I have never seen any of it. Gaines
thanks all ..and GT, I always wonder about the authenticity of any films...also if they are staged or not
I realize your question was addressed to Gaines, but I am pretty sure that the films I have seen on the CP website are at least of the period. If by "staged or not" you mean are they actual combat footage, I believe some are and some are not. I believe it was Opana Pointer who pointed out (yes, I did that on purpose) that one way to tell the difference is where the cameraman is located. If it looks like he's shooting from a foxhole or some type of cover, it may be actual combat footage. If he is standing up in the open filming a general holding a rifle and pointing out the direction of the enemy to his soldiers, its probably definitely staged.
I always wanted to do a staged or real photo/video thread......I mean if the cameraman/'producer' directed the people in the film or photo...such as at some of the famous German staged photos at the Bulge
Or somehow facing the troops who are on the move with his back to the battle. I always find that one comical.
