    25 January 1944.

"In the course of the morning, destroyer escort Frederick C. Davis, with a United States Army radio intercepting team on board, passed the word that German reconnaissance planes had been detected reporting to their headquarters a successful coverage of the whole anchorage area. This was ominous news, portending days and nights of air attack without respite."

    "Sicily-Salerno-Anzio" - Samuel Eliot Morison, page 348.
