Denton "Denny" Hayward Hood (1919 - 2007) Charles R. Dangler, 88, of Bryan,Ohio died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, 2007, at Harborside Healthcare Center, Defiance. Born May 18, 1919, at Antwerp, to Helen G. (Barney) and Henry "Ed" Dangler, he married Bertha M. Cox on Aug. 3, 1947, and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2006. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a platoon sergeant serving in Normandy, Southern France and Rhineland Central Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with a Silver Star, American Defense and Campaign, and World War II Victory medals. A life-long area farmer, he had also worked for Ridgeville Elevator, Leupp Bros., Spanglers Implements and Bil-Jax. He was a former Master of Elm Grove Grange and a member of Stryker Yackee Strong Post No. 60 American Legion. Surviving are a daughter, Iris (and husband, Dick) Kinder of Bryan; two sons, Owen (and wife, Angie) Dangler and Kevin (Carol) Dangler, all of Bryan; and 10 grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert B. Dangler. Visitation will be today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Father Charles F. Ritter to officiate. Interment will follow in Boynton Cemetery, rural Stryker. Graveside military honors will be accorded by Stryker American Legion Post 60. Memorials may be made to the charity of the family choice.
