Don Rich 327 G was wounded during the battle of Carentan France on June 11, 1944. Facebook video. https://www.facebook.com/109600119062869/videos/vb.109600119062869/1481872932965/?type=2&theater
Is anyone interested in these personal interviews? If not I'll stop. I have more if there is interest. No replies indicates a lack of interest.
There's nothing like hearing these veterans' stories in their own words. That's the purpose for this section of the Forum. Thanks for posting these and don't let the lack of response deter you. They are getting viewed and most probably go right to the video link.
Ilhawk, did you do this interview or was this posted by someone else? Would be interested in hearing more if possible.
This one I did. Some of Jack Sherman's I did and someone else did others. They are all on my facebook page. Jack used to post there, but since he blew past 91 (now 92) he doesn't use facebook anymore. Carmen Gissi, I did. I wish I'd recorded all the interviews I did for Gilder Infantryman. Don passed away in 2013, just after he did his best interview. It took him awhile to get better at it. He was 89. The video of his getting shot was in the fall of 2012. This was the same battle of Louis Simpson's poem Carentan O Carentan, which I posted. I sort of developed my own technique to get these guys to talk. The book took a long time to put together. He was quite proud of it (Don). Lloyd Gross who also was interviewed extensively was very happy with the book. He bought like 7 copies for his kids and friends. Lloyd said it gave insight as to why he struggled to talk about the war.
Knowledge not shared is lost. Especially as the opertunities to talk to those who were actually there get less and less frequent the importance of having these where people can read them becomes more and more important. Please keep posting.
