I'm sorry I don't have a nifty BBC News link, I searched their site but they don't seem to have reported on this case. It recently turned out that on a certain Dutch Navy vessel there had been repeated sexual harassment of female navy personnel, all of them hushed up. Female sailors were often assaulted and sometimes even raped, but they didn't file any form of charge because their male colleagues prevented that in various ways (most often they would not note female sailors' duties in the log, making them fail to meet Navy requirements). This scandal is now rapidly growing in depth as similar crimes are reported from other ships. Do any of you know of similar scandals going on in your own national Navies? Is it even at all common for male and female naval personnel to be on the same ship?
I know that several US ships have mixed gender crews. Usually they are service ships like tenders, but I know when I was on a USMC aircraft carrier detachment, I had to brief several women (up to CDR rank) on our procedures for answering alarms in CIC. As far as scandals go, I only know of one, anecdotally. It seems that while tied up in Diego Garcia, some of the women from the tender were prostituting themselves for some of the men on a cruiser that was tied up alongside them. One girl allegedly went out in the woods/jungle with her 'date,' and was beaten up, raped, and robbed. I don't think it was ever officially reported.
what is supriseing is that anyone thought u could mix a few hundred woman with a few thousand men,and not have any sex related problems.there are many ,in fact most jobs in the military ,that can be done by women .im not so sure mixing the sexes willy nilly in all comands is such a great idea.
We have mixed gender crews on our MTB's at least. Sometimes my father works onboard (civilian technician) and from what he said there were not any problems.
