    From The Guardian=
"My friend Eric Scriven, who has died aged 88, fulfilled his early ambition to open a jazz club, founding Club 43 in Manchester and showcasing many top artists.
Eric grew up in Manchester, son of Gilbert, a fireman and train driver for the London and North Eastern Railway, and his wife, Doris. He went to Wheeler Street school, Openshaw, and then Ardwick Central school, Manchester. He joined the Royal Navy in 1943, at 17, serving on minesweepers in the North Sea."
